William Edwards School

Safeguarding

We believe that in order for our pupils to be safeguarded effectively, we must foster and sustain a clear culture of safeguarding across the school. To maintain a robust vigilance, we adopt the belief that ‘it could happen here’ and treat every concern with the upmost importance.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead is Ms Amanda Wood (Deputy Headteacher) and our Deputy Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Karla Heighway.

Radicalisation and Extremism

William Edwards School believes and actively supports the view that all pupils should be protected from radicalisation and extremism. The school’s Prevent Duty Lead is Miss Amanda Pooley, the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

The Prevent duty lead has two specific strategic objectives when safeguarding our pupils against radicalisation, extremism and any actions or beliefs that are contrary to British values and our school ethos:

  • Respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism and the threat we face from those who promote it
  • Prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure that they are given appropriate advice and support
