At William Edwards School, we are intent on providing a broad, rich and inclusive range of learning experiences, which enable all children to be highly successful learners and individuals. An appropriate, coherent and ambitious curriculum delivered by excellent teaching will facilitate the growth of the powerful knowledge needed for our pupils to achieve the academic success necessary for progression to further study, training and employment opportunities. High quality curriculum activities will provide the learning experiences necessary for our pupils to gain cultural experience and become curious, respectful and conscientious people who can demonstrate the resilience needed to make a lasting contribution to wider society.
A core belief of the school is that pupils should have access to a wide curriculum in order to extend their breadth of knowledge as well as develop their passion for particular subjects. We work hard to ensure that our curriculum is not narrowed and that at Key Stage 4 all pupils have a wide range of options and courses available to them. Currently, we offer 18 different options at Key Stage 4.
Our extra-curricular offer is second to none. As well as having the largest Duke of Edinburgh Award cohort in the East of England, we offer an exceptionally wide range of clubs and activities from sport to the arts. As well as the more traditional curriculum, the school has also introduced specialised curriculum provision to support particular groups of pupils. For example, the ‘Learning through Sport’ programme targets pupils with an interest in sport and who would benefit from additional literacy and numeracy support. The curriculum model for the school is reviewed annually to ensure that it meets the needs of our pupils. The current model is below – please click on the link.
